Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are trying to appear more down to earth, but their seemingly coordinated PR stunts suggest otherwise. | Image: Daniel LEAL-OLIVAS / AFP
- Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently made the headlines during a charity food run.
- Many have seen the outing as a publicity stunt. It’s hard to argue.
- During the run, the couple asked people to “just call us Meghan and Harry.”
After what seems like a lifetime since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left Vancouver Island for Los Angeles, the couple finally stepped out in public to make a U.S. debut that they would never have imagined a few short months ago.
No doubt such a moment would have involved a red carpet, a swanky event, and a lot of press in Meghan’s mind.
Still, in times like these, you have to work with what you have.
There’s talk of Project Angel Food Run being a PR Stunt
Yes, there’s been some rumors suggesting that the charity meal run that both Meghan and Harry took part in was nothing short of a publicity stunt.
That remains open to discussion, but what cannot be denied is that Project Angel Food is a good cause, especially during these trying times.
One of Meghan’s friends commented to the Daily mail:
Meghan and Harry were really down-to-earth. Meghan had been looking for an organization to get behind and says Project Angel Food is the perfect fit. She plans on volunteering much more with Harry.
Why Project Angel Food is the “perfect fit” is a discussion for another day.
“Just call us Harry and Meghan,” Claims Meghan Markle & Prince Harry
While I can appreciate a more down-to-earth tone when dealing with the public, the truth is that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry don’t want to be known simply as “Harry and Meghan.”
“Harry and Meghan” aren’t what the large financial institutions are looking for when they’re handing over large sums for speeches. It’s not what Disney+ wanted for the title on their documentary.
It’s the royal connection.
Honesty, People Want More than a Calculated PR Stunt
I’ve been critical of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s PR team in the past. The leaked footage and numerous quotes from anonymous “friends” and “insiders” talking about their outings with Project Angel Food is very much “PR by numbers.”
It is, however, a lot better than what we’ve seen from them so far. Not that that is saying much, though.
I think the main issue with this situation is how we’re expected to believe that the photos and video footage were “leaked” rather than part of the publicity piece.
All most people want is honesty.
If you want to go ahead and do something good for people, that’s great. But don’t expect the public to believe the carefully crafted PR stunt that runs alongside it.

Leaked security video footage, photos, “insiders” and “friends,” telling us how down to earth the couple is. They even told us that one woman burst into tears while welcoming them to the U.S.
Come on, seriously?
Maybe I’m too cynical, but such a stunt is bordering on cringeworthy.
Lies and Deception Turns People Against Meghan Markle and Harry
There’s a lot of people who think I “hate” Meghan Markle.
I just don’t like how she goes about her business. I don’t like how calculated she seems. This charity food run is just another example of that.
Had we heard about it from the media, I’d probably have been more impressed and willing to commend them on what they have done.
That it came with video footage, photos, and cringe-worthy quotes that make the couple out to be the most loving, giving people on the planet just reminds me why I’m not a Meghan Markle or Prince Harry fan.
